Scholastic

Scholastic is another great site for reading resources. Just like Reading Rockets, Scholastic has materials for both parents and teachers. A unique feature of Scholastic is  a whole section dedicated to kids too!

The Scholastic homepage can be found at: http://www.scholastic.com/parents/

Kids - Online Stories

A really great feature of the Kids section are the online stories. The stories are easy to navigate, and children can have the stories read to them line by line while practicing reading themselves. The stories are also interactive, so the students get to "create" bits of the story. http://www.scholastic.com/parents/play/stories/

Parents - Book Lists and Recommendations

Struggling readers find success when reading is practiced both at home and at school. Scholastic encourages parents to build a home library. One great resource for beginning or expanding a home library are the Book Lists and Recommendations. The lists are broken into ages 0-2, 3-5, 6-7, 8-10, 11-13 so you can be sure to find books appropriate for your age of child.

Celebrate the fall season with your 3- to 5-year-old with these stories.

Teachers - Book Wizard

For children to find success in reading, they must be reading books on an appropriate level. While a teacher may have a very good idea of the "typical" reading level for their grade, they may be less aware of appropriate texts for struggling readers. Using the Book Wizard teachers can search for books based on Guided Reading Levels, DRA, and Lexile Measures. Searches can also be narrowed by similarity, theme, genre, series, or language. http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/  Image result for book wizard
